This is gonna hurt
Oregon schools are facing a financial crisis—again. (It’s pretty much a perennial situation.)
My own school district will make staffing cuts and close schools. Classroom size is going to get larger, which scares me when I look into high school classrooms and see 35-40 desks already in there.
I’m really beginning to think the change needs to be elsewhere. As I grew up across the border in Washington, funding crises in Oregon school were a staple of the nightly news. They still are.
Is it time to sacrifice the very progressive tax structure that Oregon has adopted and simply go to one that is less progressive, but more stable?
Roads and bridges can be built in the good years. Schools need to be good always
